We offer a wide range of giving options and funding arrangements that help meet each donor's charitable goals and financial planning needs while meeting the Department's priorities.
You may make a gift by credit card on line or by mail, or send a check payable to the UC Berkeley Foundation. Designate the program or fund (Berkeley Center for Theoretical Physics, Graduate Fellowships, Friends of Physics, etc) on the memo line.
Over 900 employers will match employees' gifts and will often match gifts made by spouses. Send your gift to the Department of Physics along with a matching gift form provided by your personnel or human resources office.
Gifts of appreciated securities are tax deductible at their full market value. The appreciated value is not typically taxable to you but, at the same time, will benefit the Department of Physics.
Closely Held Stock
As with donations of other securities, gifts of closely held stock offer similar benefits; however, very strict IRS rules govern such donations. These rules must be followed to ensure that you receive your full deduction.
Real property, entirely or a portion thereof, may be deeded to the Department of Physics, UC Berkeley. With such transactions, it is possible to arrange a significant tax deduction by deeding a home or acreage to the Department now, yet you continue to occupy the property for life.
Planned Giving/Life Income Trusts
You may transfer capital, securities, or other property such as real estate, in trust to the Department of Physics. This lifetime trust is managed at no cost to you, you may receive immediate tax benefits and the Department will ultimately receive this gift in trust.
When creating your will or living trust documents you can designate the Department of Physics, UC Berkeley as a beneficiary of your estate.
