We give a tour from basic concepts to implementation of quantum computing and quantum simulation with quantum optical systems including cold atoms and molecules. Furthermore, we provide an outlook to possible future developments such as hybrid systems and interfaces involving solid state and atomic elements, and entanglement of levitated nano-scale objects.
