This is a  personal story of the interesting experiences I have had after being discharged from the U.S. Army (I had been helping Eisenhower win WWII).  From a returning troop ship docking at the Battery in New York, I hastened uptown to register as a graduate student in physics at Columbia University. My story sketches major events from there to a party in Stockholm.
