We are developing new approaches to the control of atomic motion based on magnetic stopping of supersonic beams, and cooling with a one-way wall for atoms.  The latter is a  direct realization of the historic thought experiment of Maxwell's Demon, proposed by James Clerk Maxwell in 1871.  This toolbox of new methods provides an alternative to Laser Cooling, with much better predicted performance.  I will discuss the impact of this work on other areas of science and technology.
