Friday, August 12, 2016

Dmitriy Balandin won Kazakhstan's first Olympic gold ever in the 200m breaststroke on Wednesday, but the headline was American Josh Prenot’s silver medal: No American man had won a medal in the 200m breaststroke since Mike Barrowman won gold in 1992 and Brendan Hansen grabbed a bronze in 2004.

"I knew it was going to be tight," Prenot told reporters after the race. "Everyone was in 1 second of each other and 1.2 of the world record coming into the final, you truly had eight guys in that field who could have been on the podium tonight."
