Mn12 acetate
INTRODUCTION
Manganese 12 acetate (Mn12-ac) is a single molecule magnet being studied with the STM. This system has created interest in the field of quantum computing and information storage. The STM will provide information about the formation of self assembled clusters and monolayers at the nanometer scale. Auger electron spectroscopy (AES) verifies the elemental properties of the Mn12-ac on the substrate.
Research focuses on characterization and formulation of techniques for deposition.
Later investigation with a spin polarized STM (SP-STM), with the possibility of tuning the molecualr spin, will aid in learning more about the novel properties of
Mn12-ac.
