We are an experimental solid state physics group led by Profesor Alessandra Lanzara in the Physics Department at the University of California, Berkeley and in the Materials Sciences Division at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL).  The members of the group are also associated with the Advanced Light Source (ALS).

We are interested in the study of the electronic and magnetic properties and in the unusual electronic ground state in novel complex materials and nanostructures.  Our goal is to reach a full understanding of the quantum theory of solids and to define new pathways for the fabrication of novel materials with desired properties.

In our laboratory we investigate their properties using a variety of experimental probes including Angle Resolved Photoemission Spectroscopy (ARPES), Spin- Resolved Photoemission Spectroscopy (Spin-ARPES), Spin Polarized Low Energy Electron Microscopy (SPLEEM) and Inelastic X-ray Scattering (IXS)
