Zi Qiang Qiu received his BS in 1984 from the physics department of Peking University. He went to the graduate school of the physics department of the Johns Hopkins University via the China-United States Physics Examination and Application (CUSPEA) program, and obtained his PhD in 1991. After doing postdoc research at the Materials Science Division of the Argonne National Laboratory, he joined the physics department of the University of California at Berkeley in 1993. He is also a staff scientist at the Materials Science Division of the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL). His research interest is focused on the experimental study of magnetic nanostructures.
