Dev Tech V with The Price Group, UCB, Physics:

The work in the group is focused on particle astrophysics and detectors for cosmic ray research, and high energy nucleus-nucleus collisions. Typically large passive and active detector stacks are assembled for in-beam-line accelerated ion interaction studies.

'Developing' the dielectric detectors, chemically, to reveal the interaction regions, i.e.: the tracks of passing nuclear ions in the detectors is an important feature of my work. Fabricating new detectors and testing new chemicals is background work that is always in progress. Machining and fabricating of equiptment for various experiments, both at Berkeley and at locations throughout the world, are critical tasks in my daily work with Group members. Occasionally I also participate in measurements and evaluation of detector data, after experiments. Measurements are now performed on a semiautomatic basis that integrate microscopes, computer control and computer analysis.

Yes, I also wash yucky lab glass ware, recycle used paper, sweep floors and put away tools 'cause the mom's of my fellow researchers don't work here!

Two international research endeavors that the Price group has initiated and is involved in at this time are called

• AMANDA- the construction of a Neutrino Telescope located at the South Pole, and
• TREK and ECCO - cosmic ray experiments stowed onboard the Soviet Space Station MIR for 3 years (TREK), and the International Space Station (ECCO).
