For the second year in a row, Physics 10 or "Physics for Future Presidents", Professor Rich Muller\'s acclaimed class for non-majors, has been named the Best Class by /The Daily Californian/, along with Professor Alex Filipenko\'s Astronomy 10 class. The fact that these two science classes were chosen speaks highly about the innovative and inspiring teaching styles of both Muller and Filipenko. It also speaks highly of Cal\'s students and their willingness to try fields outside their own major .
Also, /Physics for Future Presidents/, Muller\'s popular book based on the Physics 10 course, was just named the Best work of General Non-Fiction by a Bay Area author by the Northern California Independent Booksellers Association. This award carries with it great prestige because the booksellers themselves have voted for it. Read more here: http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2009/04/24/RV6Q17753S.DTL.
And, we just learned yesterday that Rich has been awarded the "Noyce Prize for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching, given annually to a faculty member in the physical sciences who has demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching, including curriculum development", also in recognition of his Physics 10, Physics for Future Presidents.
