| Title: | New Forms Of Brownian Motion (Colloquia) |
|---|---|
| Start Date: | 09/19/2005 |
| Time: | 4:30 pm |
| Location: | 1 LeConte Hall |
| Speaker: | Dr. Pierre-Gilles De Gennes |
| Affiliation: | Professor Emeritus, College de France, Institut Curie, Nobel Laureate (1991) |
| Contact Person: | K. Lee (510) 642-3034 |
| Details: | A coin (or a droplet) on a solid plate drifts when the plate is vibrated (horizontally) unsymmetrical. If the vibrations are a white noise, we find a new type of Brownian motion with dry friction. |
