CIQC/CQCS Quantum Colloquium: Patrick Lee

CIQC/CQCS Quantum Colloquium: Patrick Lee
March 8, 2021
Wednesday, March 10, 2021 to Thursday, March 11, 2021

Join us from 12:00 - 2:00 pm as Professor Patrick A. Lee presents his talk:

Majorana Zero Modes: What, Why, Where and When

The speaker will be introduced by Professor Joel Moore.

Abstract:
This will be an introductory and review talk on the recent quest for Majorana zero modes, beginning with a discussion of what they are and why they are interesting and potentially useful towards making fault tolerant qubits. I shall emphasize that conceptually they present a fundamental challenge to our long held notion of quantum states, with the consequence that the simple act of exchanging these objects can lead to a different quantum state from the starting one. I shall discuss where Majorana zero modes could be found or created, show possible roadmaps towards an array of qubits, and review the current status of this heroic quest.

This event is hosted by the Challenge Institute for Quantum Computation (CIQC) and the Center for Quantum Coherent Science (CQCS).
