Poster Series Honors Influential Black Physicists

Poster Series Honors Influential Black Physicists
July 22, 2021

Physics major Ana Lyons has created a series of 12 posters in response to renewed conversations about equity and justice in the Physics Department. "I've always loved drawing and painting", she says, "and creating a series of portraits of influential Black physicists seemed a fun way to contribute. Researching all of the amazing physicists in this poster series was such a rewarding experience; I learned so much about a part of physics history that is often overlooked. My hope is that these posters can encourage others to learn about these amazing people, and in some small way, help increase the visibility of Black physicists and their work."

The first 6 are all non-current-working physicists, and the recently completed final 6 are current-working physicists. Each of these 8.5" x 11" posters can be downloaded at print-quality by clicking on the thumbnails below.

Read an interview with Ana Lyons about her work on the posters in the Berkeley Lab News.
