Plan Your Visit
We look forward to your visit and hope to make it as smooth as possible. Following please find directions from both the San Francisco and Oakland International Airports. The Oakland Airport, however, is more convenient to the Berkeley campus.
Directions to Campus
From San Francisco International Airport, one way to get to UC Berkeley is to use the door-to-door-shuttle service, Bayporter Express. When you exit the terminal, follow the sign to door-to-door shuttle. Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) is another convenient way to get to campus. Take BART to the Downtown Berkeley station, located on Shattuck Avenue between Allston Way and Addison Street. This station is at the western edge of campus, and if you head East (uphill) you will be headed towards the Physics Department.
Public transportation is recommended over driving to campus because parking and traffic can present challenges. That said, there are public and private parking lots along the perimeter of campus. There is no public parking on campus.
For more information about visiting campus, please visit the main UC Berkeley website.
Visiting the Department
The Physics Department is centrally located on campus, right along the Campanile Esplanade. Historic Physics South, Physics North, Birge Hall and New Campbell Hall, house physics labs, offices and classrooms.
If you are coming to the Physics Department for the first time or if you are meeting with the Department Chair, come to the Front Office in 366 Physics North. We will be happy to direct you to your meeting or appointment.
