The 2022 Pi2 Summer Scholar Symposium

The beginning of the 2022 fall semester was marked by the Pi2 Summer Symposium, where undergraduate scholars from the Pi2 Summer Scholars Program presented their research posters to faculty, donors, and students. Held on August 22, the symposium was the capstone event for the 11 undergraduate scholars that spent the summer months conducting research alongside a graduate student on a topic they expressed interest in.

Chair James Analytis and Pi2 faculty lead Feng Wang gave opening and closing remarks respectively, and topics presented included gravitational wave cosmoloty, phonon propogation simulations, Higgs physics with machine learning, and more.

The Pi2  Summer Scholars Program, part of the Physics Innovators Initiative (Pi2), emphasizes mentorship by pairing undergraduates with graduate mentors that provide guidance on conducting research in their area of interest and developing as a physicist. The program also supports scholars with a summer stipend, made possible by the generous support of Berkeley Physics donors. This successful program will continue in the coming years.
