Ecological overshoot is one of the grand challenges of the 21st century. Humans are consuming natural resources and generating waste at an unsustainable rate. To tackle the problem at its root a new paradigm in the way materials are designed and used is needed.
Our focus is to engineer new multifunctional materials, through nano-scale control and functionalization of material interfaces.
Prof. Lanzara is the director for the Center for Sustainable Materials and Innovation (CSMI) at UC Berkeley.
