Marty B. Halpern Memorial

Event Details

Topics

The conference is held in honor of our mentor, colleague, and friend, Marty Halpern, who passed away a year ago. The event is a gathering of former students, collaborators, colleagues, friends, and family. It is planned as a celebration of Marty's scientific breakthroughs and of his legacy, and will focus on recent developments in the following fields of high-energy and mathematical physics:

  • String theory, general relativity, and quantum gravity;
  • Quantum gauge field theories;
  • Infinite dimensional Lie algebras.

A historical account of some of Marty Halpern's early accomplishments, including the introduction of fermions into the string worldsheet and the celebrated discovery of affine Lie algebras, can be found in arxiv:0907.2705. A brief description of Marty's life and legacy can be found at: Remembering Martin B. Halpern
